Two arrested following pursuit
JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO)-Sheriff Tim Morse reports a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a Chevy Cavalier near 126th and 75 Hwy for allegedly speeding and a registration violation around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued into NW Shawnee County and then into the City of Topeka. A KHP aircraft unit was able to follow the vehicle into central Topeka and observed the suspects park the vehicle and enter an apartment building at 1320 SW Polk Street. Law enforcement officers were able to apprehend the pair at that location. The driver, Raymond Joseph Meyer, 21, of Chanute, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail for felony fleeing and eluding, interference with law enforcement, possession of a hallucinogenic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a license. Meyer also had an outstanding Shawnee County warrant and an outstanding Topeka warrant. The passenger, Madison Paige Hemelrick, 22, of Mayetta, was arrested and booked into the Jackson County Jail for interference with law enforcement, possession of a hallucinogenic drug and drug paraphernalia. The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, the Hoyt Police Department and the Topeka Police Department assisted with the incident.
