 JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO)-Sheriff Tim Morse reports that a Topeka man died following a traffic stop that occurred near the Brown County line on US 75 Hwy. A Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction shortly before 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. The driver and passenger were detained when the passenger stated he had ingested methamphetamine and requested to go to the hospital. The man was immediately taken to the Holton Community Hospital where he subsequently died.

As per protocol, Sheriff Morse requested an outside agency to investigate the death of the individual. The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office is in charge of the death investigation. The name of the deceased is not yet being made public until family are notified. Deputies seized a quantity of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, counterfeit bills, credit cards, and a handgun. The driver is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail on drug and traffic charges.
