Suspect in shooting arrested
A rural Mayetta man was arrested late Wednesday night following a shooting north of Mayetta. Alva Bryant McKinney, 40, of Mayetta was arrested by Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigators in connection with the shooting. At approximately 7 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 17537 R.4 Road where the caller reported a shooting. The caller reported the victim was shot in the head. Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Potawatomi Tribal Police officers, Mayetta Fire Department and Jackson County EMS responded to the case address. A 59-year-old victim was transported to a Topeka hospital by Jackson County EMS. The victim was in stable condition late Wednesday. McKinney was detained for questioning and was subsequently arrested for aggravated battery. Bond on McKinney is pending.
