ICY HEAD-ON SENDS FOUR TO HOSPITALS

Jackson County Emergency Responders were called to a head on weather related collision early this morning in northern Jackson County. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a report at approximately 1:44 a.m. of a two-car head on accident at the Muddy Creek Bridge north of 318th Road on US Hwy 75 or near mm. 201.  Saul Hernandez Castoreno of Harlingten, Texas was driving northbound in his 2000 Ford Mustang when he lost control on the icy bridge striking a southbound 1996 Acura driven by John Curtis Owens of Topeka. Owens had to be extricated from the vehicle by responders

US Hwy 75 Highway was shut down for a period of time until the highway was cleared and until the ice on the bridge was treated. Netawaka, Whiting and Holton Fire Departments responded to the scene. Jackson County EMS transported 4 patients from the accident with non-incapacitating injuries to Topeka hospitals.
