VEHICLE PURSUIT IN JACKSON COUNTY

A Jackson County Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 1985 Dodge pickup near 222nd and R.4 Road southeast of Holton around 5:30 this evening when a vehicle pursuit ensued.  The pursuit continued for approximately 30 minutes in eastern and southeastern Jackson County.  Another Jackson County deputy attempted to stop the vehicle north of 142nd Road on V. Road by deploying stop sticks.  The pickup allegedly swerved to miss the stop sticks and continued northbound on V. where the pickup lost control while negotiating a curve and left the roadway ejecting the driver with the vehicle striking trees approximately ½ mile south of 158th and V. Road.  The driver, and only occupant of the vehicle was identified as, 49 year-old Robert J. Eisermann of Denison.  The Potawatomi Tribal Police, Mayetta Police, Hoyt Police and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted with the pursuit.  The Mayetta Fire Dept., Hoyt Fire Department and Jackson County EMS also responded to the scene of the crash.  The driver was alert and oriented at the scene and was transported non-emergent to a Topeka hospital for evaluation.  The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
