SCAM ALERT

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO) – Sheriff Tim Morse reports that on March 24th, 2023, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was notified by multiple residences of a scam by mail.  The residents received a letter where the writer addresses himself as an attorney and a partner in a financial organization.  The person states there is over 10 million dollars in unclaimed payable on death accounts. The person desires the recipient of the letter to partner with him to claims these monies.

The Sheriff’s Office advises residents that this is a scam and not to partake or make contact with the sender.  Again, do not provide your personal information or banking information to anyone you are unfamiliar with.  Also, it is best not to do business with unsolicited vendors that come to your door such as roofers, driveway repair, painting, tree removal, etc.  Also, it is better to avoid doing business with those seeking your business by telephone, mail and internet.  If you need to repair your driveway or you have some other need, then do the research and review the recommendations’ of others before you pay.
