Active shooter exercise at Royal Valley High School

School Safety Exercise held at Royal Valley High School

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO) – Sheriff Tim Morse reports that on Saturday, February 25th, 2023, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Emergency Management and the Royal Valley School District hosted an active shooter training exercise at the Royal Valley High School in Hoyt.  Area public safety agencies were invited to participate in the training exercise.  The Hoyt Fire Department, PBPN Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Hoyt Police Department, PBPN Police Department and other public safety agencies took part in the program.  In addition, Royal Valley School District staff and students also participated.  All three Jackson County Superintendents were present during the exercise. Sheriff Tim Morse said, “I am very proud of our students, staff and administration along with our county’s public safety personnel to take the time and dedication to make this event happen.  School safety and security has to be a community’s top priority.  Our greatest asset is our children, and we should all be doing everything we possibly can to make them safe at school. I would also like to thank Deputy Joe Romans who has spent countless hours assessing the security needs for every school in our county and providing the needed training for our school personnel and students. This training event wouldn’t have been a success, or have taken place, if it were not for his dedicated service.”
