Man charged for murder in pursuit

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO) – Sheriff Tim Morse reports that on February 5,  2023, Robert Eugene Love Jr., 44, of Auburn, Kansas was arrested on a Jackson County District Court warrant for first degree murder.  The warrant was issued as a result of a police vehicle pursuit originated by the Holton Police Department on the night of May 27, 2021.  The pursuit ended at the intersection of 286th and U.S. Hwy 75 when the vehicle Love was allegedly driving struck a southbound vehicle. A passenger in Love’s vehicle, Shai Boyd was killed in the incident. Shawnee County Sheriff Deputies located Love in Shawnee County and Love is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail.

Love is being charged with the following: (Count 1)- murder in the 1st degree, (Count 2) – aggravated battery while driving under the influence, (Count 3) – aggravated battery while driving under the influence, (Count 4) – aggravated battery while driving under the influence, (Count 5) – fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, (Count 6) – interference with law enforcement, (Count 7) – driving while suspended, (Count 8) – driving while a habitual violator, (Count 9) – reckless driving, (Count 10) illegal display of a license plate, (Count 11) – driving on left in no-passing zone, (Count 12) – improper or unsafe turn, (Count 13) – speeding, (County 14) – failure to yield at stop sign or yield sign.
