Jefferson County woman in custody following pursuit

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO) – Sheriff Tim Morse reports that a 45-year-old Oskaloosa woman is in custody following a Tuesday evening pursuit.  The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received an attempt to locate bulletin from Jefferson County authorities around 2 p.m. to locate an Oskaloosa woman that might be suicidal and intoxicated. Jefferson County authorities were able to contact the woman by phone.  Jackson County Deputies located the woman near 222nd and K. Roads in Jackson County in a black Dodge pickup around 4 p.m.  Deputies observed that the woman was armed with three firearms.  Deputies attempted to negotiate with the woman to surrender to law enforcement. The woman fled from the deputies northbound on K. Road and then east on 286th Road.  Deputies and Troopers attempted to disable the vehicle with tire deflation devices.  The truck continued eastbound and turned northbound on O. Road to K-9 Hwy.  The pursuit went eastbound on K-9 Hwy.  At approximately 5 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office performed a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver that disabled the vehicle prior to reaching the intersection of K-9 Hwy and U.S. Hwy 75. The maneuver caused the truck to leave the highway and stopping after crashing into an electrical sub-station fence. Deputies and Troopers continued to persuade the driver to surrender her weapons and to come out of the vehicle.  The woman surrendered around 6:20 p.m. to law enforcement.  The woman was assessed by EMS and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
