DEPUTIES INTERRUPT DRUG DELIVERY

On Tuesday, May 5th, Jackson County authorities interrupted a delivery of approximately 4 lbs of marijuana that had been shipped from California by U.S. mail to Whiting, Kansas.  Jackson County Deputies observed Johnny Lee Williams 54, of rural Netawaka picking up a large package believed to contain a large quantity of marijuana at the Whiting Post Office.  Williams left the post office westbound on K-9 Hwy, where the vehicle he was riding in, a white 1996 Ford Ranger, was stopped by Jackson County authorities.   Deputies arrested Williams, who was charged with felony possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.  Williams is alleged to have distributed marijuana from shipments he had been receiving from California. Jackson County and Brown County authorities served a search warrant on Williams’ residence in southern Brown County in connection with the case on Tuesday evening.   Williams remains in the Jackson County Jail.  Bond on Williams is pending at this time.  The female driver of the Ford Ranger was released at the scene.  The case remains under investigation.
