Mayetta woman arrested on drug charges

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO) – Sheriff Tim Morse reports that on January 27th, 2023, shortly before 10 A.M., a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a red Ford Fusion for a traffic infraction near 142nd and U.S. Hwy 75. The driver was found to have a suspended license and was subsequently arrested. The passenger, Saleena Rae Masquat, 37, of Mayetta, also had a warrant through Topeka Police Department. A third occupant was identified and later released. During the traffic stop, a Jackson County Sheriff’s K-9 was deployed and indicated to the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed both methamphetamine and marijuana as well as paraphernalia indicating the distribution of methamphetamine. Also located in the vehicle was electronic equipment that belonged to a Topeka Walmart store that was confirmed to be stolen. Masquat was arrested and is being charged for distribution of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of stolen property.

Masquat is being held on a $50,000 bond.
