JACKSON COUNTY AGENCIES, SCHOOLS AND SHERIFF’S OFFICE COLLABORATE TO IMPROVE THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF SCHOOL STAFF AND STUDENTS IN THE EVENT OF A VIOLENT THREAT!

JACKSON COUNTY, Kan. (JASO)-Sheriff Tim Morse reports on April 5, 2021, multiple Jackson County agencies conducted an active shooter exercise at the Holton High School campus. All agencies agreed that this exercise was a success. This exercise was a joint effort, led by the Jackson County Emergency Management Director, Pat Korte and the USD 336 Superintendent, Bob Davies. Those supporting the effort, were the Jackson County Sheriff, Tim Morse, the Holton Fire Chief, Kevin Ingels, Holton Police Chief, Steve Frederick, and Jackson County EMS, led by Con Olson. The USD 336 Transportation Director, Ginger Binkley and the USD 336 Maintenance Director, Mike Porter, were key to planning the event. Training modifications and improvements have been and are being made as a result. The Sheriff congratulated the participants for the planning and hard work that went into the event, noting that the Sheriff’s office is 100 percent behind the effort to keep our kids safe. Bob Davies, the USD 336 Superintendent, said, “This is just one more step in the ongoing mission to improve and evolve safety and security in our schools.” Pat Korte, the emergency management director for Jackson County, summed it up, “we are committed to pull out all the stops to protect our most precious resource, our children.”
